Join us for Maine Homeschool Field Trips' Boston Children's Museum Exploration Trip!

We will be catching the 8am morning Amtrak Downeaster out of Portland Maine and traveling down to Boston. We will independently explore the Boston Children's Museum- returning to Portland on the 6:15pm train. Included in this trip is round trip Downeaster tickets from/to Portland, round trip MBTA subway fare, and Museum entrance fee.

  • Relax and enjoy the ride!
  • No driving or parking in Boston!
  • Travel with friends!
  • Have a snack and catch a nap!
  • Plenty of space to get up and move around!

TRANSPORTATION: This trip includes round trip transportation from Portland Amtrak ($5 parking fee not included), to the Boston North station of Amtrak and round subway fare. Late arrivals will not be permitted on a later train, without full fare. Please arrive on-time.

MBTA SUBWAY: From Boston North station we will catch the ORANGE Line subway and travel for 2 minutes to the Downtown Crossing exit. From the Downtown Crossing exit, we will board the RED Line subway and go one exit to South Station it is 2 city blocks to walk (approximately 5-10 minutes) to the Boston Children's Museum. Taxis can be easily hailed from North station for those unable to take the subway/walk.

TO/FROM PORTLAND STATION ONLY This is a group package and tickets cannot be split up. We are issued one ticket as a group. Having individual a la carte options and itineraries would be too difficult for all involved and would not qualify for the group rate. Thanks for your understanding!

  • Please check out train tickets from the north and south. You can always purchase your own tickets farther up or down the line. For example, it is very reasonable to take the train from Brunswick to Portland and join the group there.

ARRIVAL Boston Children's Museum: We will meet as a group out front of the Boston's Children's Museum for a group photo and to check-in together at 11:15AM. We will explore the museum on our own and meet back at North Station at 5:30 pm for early boarding and to catch the 6:15 pm train departure back to Maine. Again, please be on-time. Late arrivals will not be permitted on a later train without full fare.

Martin's Park: This beautiful memorial park is located adjacent to the Boston Children's Museum. It is free and open to the public. Weather permitting, my family and I will have our lunch here and enjoy some outside time exploring the paths and play structures.

"The park features unique covered slides, climbing structures, a large wooden boat, interactive musical pieces, and fun winding walkways.   Wooden benches — some carved from logs — provide the perfect resting spot for parents and caregivers." -from Boston Central

DINNER: My family will be leaving the Boston's Children's Museum at 4pm to walk the 4 blocks to historic Chinatown for dinner. We will walk through the Chinatown Arch at 5pm on our way to the subway back to North Station for our 5:30pm meet up (in case anyone wants to walk with us).
